Robin Hayes Must Go

Joe Sinsheimer of fame has set his sights on Robin Hayes. He and his wife Toddi Steelman are hosting a fundraiser for Larry Kissell this Sunday in their Raleigh home. Joe has spent the better part of the last year in Vancouver, where Toddi was working as a Fullbright Scholar. The time and distance has given them a fresh perspective on state and national politics. The vision of Larry Kissell as a Congressman representing the 8th District has not changed. Join them on Sunday in Raleigh to help send Robin Hayes packing and to send Larry Kissell to Washington. From Toddi's email:

This is to let you know that Joe and I are hosting a fundraiser for Larry Kissell, Democratic Nominee for Congress NC 8th District, at our house on Sunday, September 28, 2008 from 4-6 pm.

Larry represents the best chance NC has to pick up a House seat from the Republicans this year. He lost to Robin Hayes two years ago by 330 votes.

Primed for Passion

This time last week I attended a Bar Mitzvah ceremony in Chicago. I was struck by two passages read in the course of the ceremony. One attributed to Albert Einstein and another from poetry by Marge Piercy. These words found great resonance within me.

...we are here for the sake of each other...Many times a day I realize how much my own outer and inner life is built upon the labors of others, both living and dead, and how earnestly I must exert myself in order to give in return as much as I have received and am still receiving.

Albert Einstein (adapted)

We stand in the midst of the burning world; primed to burn with compassionate love and justice, to turn inward and find holy fire at the core, to turn outward and see the world that is all of one flesh with us, see under the trash, through the smog, the furry bee in the apple blossom, the trout leaping, the candles our ancestors lit for us.

From "Interpretive Nishmat Kol Hay" by Marge Piercy.

Republican Governors Gone Wild

The Republican Governors Association has thrown all caution to the electoral winds and has committed $4.8 million to supporting Pat McCrory according to a report filed this week with the State Board of Elections. As Under the Dome notes, by far the biggest contributor, at $1.2 million, is Texan Bob Perry, a major Swift Boating underwriter and funder of misleading 527 groups like the "Americans for Honesty on Issues" that targeted Heath Shuler in 2006. Another funder is Texan James Leninger, aka God's Sugar Daddy and a Robin Hayes contributor.

I've written previously about the RGA involvement in the NC Governor's race in Millionaires for McCrory and The Great Republican Governors Association McCrory Money Laundering Machine.

Millionaires for McCrory

Wealthy Republican donors have been lining up to contribute to an ad campaign for Pat McCrory in amounts far in excess of normal $4,000 contribution limits and it's all perfectly legal. Last week the Republican Governor's Association reported spending on an anti-Perdue ad and reported contributions to the RGA NC 2008 PAC of $616,500 from 23 wealthy donors, an average contribution of $26,804 per person.
