Banks and Thomas Jefferson

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.

Thomas Jefferson

As usual, he hit the nail square on the head.

Sanford - Hunt - Frye Dinner

The Carteret County Democratic Party is hosting the Sanford-Hunt-Frye Dinner in Morehead City on Aug. 27, 2011.

I would like to invite all of you to attend this event. I have attached the link to the party website with all of the information on the event and the online ticket purchase.

I have also posted this on Blue NC's event page.

I hope many of you can join us here on Aug. 27.

First Lady Betty Ford

I was saddened today to learn of the death of former First Lady Betty Ford.

She and her husband, the former president, served this country with honor and they, as a couple, were what this country needed after the nightmare of Richard Nixon.

They are also the best example I have ever seen of what use to be right with the republican party.
They might not have agreed with you, and they would advance their position on the issue with class and a good argument to back up their position.

They never made it personal.

Like Jim Holshouser and Jim Martin, our two GOP Governors in my lifetime, President and Mrs. Ford would have never been able to serve this nation in the day of Norquest and Beck and Bachmann.

It is sad to see what has happened to the Republican party in the last 30 years and to think people of their level of honor and service have been replaced by the likes of Palin.

Rest in peace Mrs. Ford, patriot and servant of mankind.

To my fellow members of the SEC of the North Carolina Democratic Party

I want to share a letter with you that I sent to David Parker and Bill Faison and that I am reprinting here with both of their knowledge and permission.

The Future of the North Carolina Democratic Party

Hugh L. Wilde Jr January 15 at 2:30pm
as a life long democrat and a member of the SEC I have a few things I want to share with you both.
Two weeks from now our party will have a new chairman and it will be one of you. You are both men of purpose and accomplishment and it is my though that whoever wins and whoever loses this race, that the party needs you both.
It is my hope that whoever prevails as chairman that his first action will be to fully involve the other in a position of high importance in the North Carolina Democratic Party.
Fetzer and his goons are the enemy, not either one of you, and it is going to take all that all of us can do to have a chance at prevailing in 2011 and 2012.

New job for Olbermann

Sadly Keith Olbermann signed off MSNBC for the last time last night. I always felt he spoke truth to power about as good as anyone else in the news.
Well...... the President needs a new press secretary......
I can only imagine just how crazy our republican friends would get. It would be a thing of beauty to watch.

Keith Olbermann for White House Press Secretary, just take a second and think about it. Fox, Rush, Lonesome Roads Beck and the rest of the right wing nut machine would lose what is left of their small closed minds.

The lights are on but nobody is home.

I drove by Godwin House this morning and it looked like the lights were on but nobody was home.

Like him or not, Jerry Meek left the party in good shape when he stepped down. In much less than 2 years David Young has reduced a well oiled North Carolina Democratic Party machine left him by Jerry Meek to a barely functioning wreck.

Where the NCGOP had their people at many polling places handing out stuff on the " conservative judges" we had no such help from state headquarters. I could go on and on and on but it just makes me mad.

Bev better take control of this mess and put people in place that can do the work and pull this party out of the sink hole we now find ourselves in.

As for David Young the only words I can find that fit are those that Winston Churchill called those terrible words. The words of Oliver Cromwell to the Long Parliament.

“You have sat too long for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!”

A Humble Apology

A Humble Apology

Last year when John McCain picked Sarah Palin to be his vice-presidential running mate, I made a comment in a post that she was “ Dan Quayle with tits”

Following my post there was an uproar about my implied sexism and my choice of language. I posted a retraction of my comment and issued an apology to the group.

I now feel that the time has come for me to issue another apology for my remark.

Would anyone happen to have an e-mail or mailing address for Dan Quayle?
