Thom Tillis

NC will likely wash its hands of Thom Tillis in November

WaPo rates NC the "swingiest" of swing states:

Former state senator and Iraq and Afghanistan war veteran Cal Cunningham is the Democrats’ nominee (despite Republican interference to boost another candidate). In the first three months of this year, he doubled Tillis’s fundraising hauls. Tillis has tried at points to display some independence from Trump, pushing a bill to prevent the firing of Robert S. Mueller III and opposing Trump’s method of paying for the border wall. But he embraced the wall and during impeachment, he was all-in for the president.

We don't call him Two-Faced Tillis for nothing. He has never been exceptionally popular among Republicans, but that OpEd he wrote had them sharpening the long knives. Let's see what Thommy said back then:

Tillis and Meadows: Abandon ship ... or go down with the ship?

It's not often two national politicians can be tied together with a single fancy ribbon, but Thom Tillis and Mark Meadows certainly can. They're both hyper-partisan shills for Donald F. Trump, fluffing the Orange One with no regard for truth, decency, or constitutional responsibility. Each has a daily Twitter presence that sings Trump's praises while denigrating fully half of their constituents with accusations of being part of a liberal mob.

Lawless king

Dear Senator Tillis,

You probably agree that
our US Constitution is about as good as it gets.
America's inspired framers engaged in serious debate
and achieved a masterful balance,
a country ready for anything.
Except a lawless king.
That's where we are.

Like you, I was raised to revere the Constitution.
Also like you, I've taken an oath to defend it
against all enemies foreign and domestic.

Tillis on Twitter

Most people in North Carolina have no idea who Thom Tillis really is. But if you follow him on Twitter, the picture is crystal clear. And ugly as sin.

Nothing paints that picture more clearly than this Tweet from Tillis encouraging people to sign a birthday card for Eric Trump. As far as I'm concerned, Tillis could just as easily been asking for applause for a bowel movement ... a disgusting display from a world-class sycophant. And remember, this happened at the same time Trump authorized the assassination of an Iranian general, triggering new tensions, new threats to American citizens, and yet another illegal Republican.

Interstate Crosscheck Dismantled, But Questions Remain

Here’s a story you might have missed with all the hubbub around impeachment, Silent Sham, and redistricting.

Some of you might recall Interstate Crosscheck, the program touted by then-Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach to ferret out so-called voter fraud. The basic idea was that Kobach convinced several states to send him voter data, which his crack Kansas team would comb through for duplicates, showing people voting more than once in different states.

In 2014, then Speaker of the NC House Thom Tillis raised all kinds of alarms about voter fraud and pushed the state to send it’s voter data to Kansas for Kobach’s effort.

Turns out Interstate Crosscheck has been shut down, settling a lawsuit by the ACLU of Kansas. Besides using completely inept and bogus methodology, the voter data was stored on insecure servers and had other security vulnerabilities.
